August 1st – Nipin Celebration

9 AM               Lighting of Bake Oven and Baking by Elders and Youth (near QuickStop)

11:30 AM        Dedication of Nellie Faries Memorial Bake Oven

This will be a ceremony to unveil the new community bake oven as a living monument to the More than 350 year theme of Šawelihcikewin and to honour Nellie Faries, who had the vision for the bake oven and who was the elder and co-founding board member of the Moose Factory Tourism Association in 2004 (which became the MRHHA later). The Bake Oven fire will be lit in the morning to heat it up. The bake over will be used throughout the day by Elders and Youth to cook and bake various items together. People can come by and sample if things are available.

2 PM               Unveiling of new Ontario Heritage Trust Historic Site Plaque (at CCIC)
