More than 350 Opening Ceremony
March 7 @ 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm
March 7 is the Full Moon for Mikisiwi-piisim (eagle moon), the beginning of Sikwan (early spring) and the Cree New Year. On this date, More than 350 in 2023 will be launched with an Opening Ceremony to be held on the river ice and in the hall of the former Ecolodge (now the Payukotayno office) in Moose Factory.
In partnership with local schools and recreation organizations in Moose Factory and Moosonee, the festivities will start around 2 pm with an opening prayer and welcome, followed by family-oriented games and activities outdoors. A skating rink, skating path and toboggan run will be prepared and shelters will be set up outdoors. Access to washrooms will be provided at the old Ecolodge, and the Ecolodge hall will be available for people to gather, with priority given to elders. Warm and cold drinks and snacks will be available and, starting at 5 pm, a hot supper of chilli and bannock will be served.
At 6 pm, the opening ceremony presentation will be broadcast on local radio, television and YouTube and displayed on large screens in the Ecolodge hall and on the river ice. This broadcast will include messages from elders, youth, and leaders across the region and nation as well as music from the More than 350 Album. The evening will finish with a bonfire and fireworks. The More than 350 Commemorative Calendar will be released for distribution and More than 350 memorabilia and clothing will be available for purchase.
Buses will be available to provide transportation to Moosonee and Moose Factory residents.
