E tipachimonaniwahk - Celebrating our Storytelling

E tipachimonaniwahk - Storytelling -

UPDATE: Live Broadcast on March 28 at 5 pm

Community channel (10) in Moose Factory and Moosonee, and on YouTube

Join us this coming Winter 2021 to celebrate our wintertime tradition of storytelling!

Throughout this winter we are encouraging everyone to set aside time on Friday or Saturday to gather together as families and small groups of friends and share stories. You can do this around the kitchen, the woodstove, at home or at camp, etc. Unplug from digital technology if you can, or if it is the only way of connecting with family and friends, use it to create a virtual storytelling session.

Contest and Prizes!

At the same time, we are holding a storytelling contest and inviting submissions of stories from individual community members; families or groups of friends; school groups or classes; and organizations, workplaces and other groups.  Prize-winning and runner-up stories will be selected from all categories for a 90-minute show broadcast on the web, local radio, the community channels on the weekend of March 27-28.

Format and criteria:

Submission Format                Story Type
digital video or audio file         Stories, poems, songs, historical narratives, interviews, dramatic performance, comedy

digital image(s) and description (audio or text)

Drawing, painting, photography, traditional crafts and tools, regalia, drums, etc.

Themes:

Stories can address any number of themes, including, but not limited to: traditional stories and legends, life stories, stories about seasonal actvities on the land and traditional practices, or about a workplace, sports, school or any aspect of community life, including leaving home or returning home. They can also be about living away from home and staying connected to home. They can be based on interviews with elders and others. They can be funny or serious. They can be old or new stories, set in the past or in the present. They can be time-capsule stories that give us a glimpse or perspective on our community and region at a particular point time, perhaps based on an interview with someone who used to live here in years past and remembers our community at that point. Stories can be about Moose Factory, Moosonee, the Moose River region or anywhere in traditional Moose Cree territory, or relate to people from here and their connections to people elsewhere.

Submission deadline and form:

Submit your story(ies) by Tuesday, March 23 at 4 pm.
